Episode 66 of "Words from My Teachers"

Readings from the book, "Shout of Buddha: Writings of Haya Akegarasu"

In this episode we will continue reading from the book, Shout of Buddha: Writings of Haya Akegarasu, which was published in 1977. In this episode I will read the essay, Fascinated By Plants.

At the end of my reading of the essay, I share a few words about how I felt the essay spoke for me and what I’ve been doing the last 5 or so weeks, when I took some time off. I’ve been living my everyday life as, Rev. Akegarasu wrote: “Living, moving, sitting and lying down”, which according to him is “The Way” … and I’ve been fascinated by plants.

I am offering this episode as a free episode, celebrating the time I spent living my everyday life, sharing it with the plants, “under the heavens and the earth.”

As I’ve mentioned, the writings and teachings of Haya Akegarasu, his thinking and expression, are completely unique to what you find in much of Buddhist teachings. This uniqueness is passed on to his student, Rev. Gyomay Kubose, and Rev. Gyomay’s son, my teacher Rev. Koyo Kubose.

Please take some time to deeply consider these teachings so that you take them as your own, without worrying about whether they are Buddhist or anything else. Don’t label. It is that spirit that is the spirit of The Bright Dawn Center of Oneness Buddhism and the Kubose Dharma Legacy.

I hope you will subscribe to hear more from the teachings and teachers of the Bright Dawn / Kubose Dharma Legacy lineage.
