Episode 52 of "Words from My Teachers"

Readings from the book, "Shout of Buddha: Writings of Haya Akegarasu", translated by Gyoko Saito & Joan Sweany

In this episode we will begin reading from the book, Shout of Buddha: Writings of Haya Akegarasu, which was published in 1977.

In this episode, I begin reading the book by reading Gyoko T. Saito’s "Introduction” and Joan Sweany’s “Introductory Note”, followed by the first essay of Haya Akegarasu’s, Declaration of the Independent Man. This is another special episode that offers insight into what the “Bright Dawn” lineage is all about. And, because of that, I am offering this as a free episode.

As I mention in this podcast episode, the writings and teachings of Haya Akegarasu, his thinking and expression, are completely unique in what you find in much of Buddhist teachings. This uniqueness is passed on to his student, Rev. Gyomay Kubose, and Rev. Gyomay’s son, my teacher Rev. Koyo Kubose.

Below is a photo of Rev. Haya Akegarasu with young Gyomay Kubose at Emerson’s grave. Emerson was a thinker and writer Akegarasu greatly admired.

Please take some time to deeply consider these teachings so that you take them as your own, without worrying about whether they are Buddhist or anything else. Don’t label. It is that spirit that is the spirit of The Bright Dawn Center of Oneness Buddhism and the Kubose Dharma Legacy.

I hope you will subscribe to hear more from the teachings and teachers of the Bright Dawn / Kubose Dharma Legacy lineage.
